So the third week has come and gone! I spent a total of $38. $30 on food at the grocery store and $8 on my lunch today because we were not allowed to take food into the Capitol Building and I had a tour first thing in the morning, before work.
Ok, here is some of what I ate: tuna noodle casserole, chicken and white bean soup, turkey bacon with pancakes and home made banana bread. For snacks I had apples with peanut butter (one of my favorite things in the world!), yogurt, plums and honey wheat pretzels. Currently in the oven cheesecake blueberry muffins, banana nut muffins and chobani brownies...YUMMY!
For the last and final week I have a total of $42, I think I'm doing pretty good so far. I still have a pretty good stash in my pantry and my fridge isn't completely empty.
Till next time...

First week...piece if cake, errr cookie dough. Zero dollars spent!
Total spent the first week: $0
I took the advise of the blogger that I got this idea from and tried my hardest to not spend any money the first week. I ate some leftovers the first few days, which is actually fairly normal for me. Some of the meals that I had were mac and cheese with spinach muffins, chicken stir-fry, apples dipped in pancake batter and egg muffins. I snacked on things like honey wheat pretzel rods, raw cherries and for dessert I had cookie dough. I had a tube of toll house cookie dough left over from the previous week that was unopened and was an awesome dessert!
I was also able to score a free breakfast at work and a free starbucks drink from a promotion that were running!
I still have a full tank of gas because I either took the metro, biked or walked places. This, also, is a normal occurrence for me living in DC.
Next week better watch out because I'm coming for it!

The Prequel
Today I decided to begin a No Spend Month Challenge on Monday, July 9, 2012. I will only spend $80 in the next 4 weeks on things like food, gas, household items, clothing and entertainment.
This doesn't include: rent, bills, health expenses, pet expenses, emergency repairs and gifts.
Currently, I have a half full freezer, the staples in my refrigerator, a full tank of gas, a metro card that the USDA puts money on and a semi-full pantry. In my apartment I only have one cabinet for "pantry" items so that will limit my ability/desire to cheat.
Cheating consists of: going over budget (duh), stocking up before hand, allowing someone else to pay for your meal.
I will put my credit/debit cards in the freezer and only use cash. Maybe I'll freeze them in a block of ice to curb my temptation.
Everything is so expensive in DC, and convenience items are everywhere. There's a cupcake truck that comes to my work... seriously? I need to rein it in and use what my mamma gave me...my brain. I'll be figuring out new recipes for random items in my fridge, eating leftovers and doing free entertainment activities.
So, here goes nothing!
If you're wondering where I got this idea from...here's the website that I found it.
